IN CLINIC PROTOCOLS
Create a robust epidermis and dermis through the Dermasystem homecare protocols. Slowly start to introduce active products and peels in the clinic (use titration method). Micro-needling with the Fusion RADIANCE ampoule is suggested. Retinoid peels are ultimately prescribed for progressive improvement.

THE PROBLEM:
Pigmentation marks are patches of skin that become darker than surrounding areas. Also known as hyperpigmentation the condition includes age spots, melasma, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Pigmentation results from uneven distribution of melanin over the skin surface due to uneven melanin production by the melanocytes. Melanin is a naturally occurring pigment found in the skin that protects the skin and body against the harmful effects of the sun’s radiation. The irritation on the skin’s surface caused by sun exposure translates into greater production of melanin. The amount of melanin that reaches the epidermis gives the skin its color.

THE SOLUTION:
There is no complete cure for pigmentation, it can be reduced and managed over time. Laser Resurfacing is the pigmentation treatment of choice which can remove up to 80% of melanin; however, the laser is not always an ideal treatment for all skin types’, especially darker skin. A combination of Aesthetic treatments including peels and micro-needling with concentrated actives that target melanin in the skin combined with specific homecare products help reduce dark areas and even out the skin tone. Daily use of SPF is a must.

THE CAUSE:
Common triggers include sun exposure, heat, pregnancy, birth control pills, inflammation, in-clinic treatments, some topical ingredients, physical damage, and certain drugs.

LIFESTYLE TIPS:
The number one thing you can do is avoid sun exposure and wear daily sunscreen on the face, neck, and decolletage. Wear sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat when in the sun. Avoid prolonged inflammation of the skin. Ensure the skin is robust, do not over-exfoliate or use detergent-based cleansers.
